This 2013 report on terrorism updates five earlier studies. The purpose of this study is to focus on the security environment during the year, particularly in North, West, and Central Africa, with the hope that further research in this critical strategic region will be undertaken. A rigorous methodology regarding the collection of ‘terrorist incidents’ has been used and is detailed in the beginning of the chronology.
