Preventing Youth Radicalization in East Africa
Author(s):
This a report compiled from the Preventing Youth Radicalization (PYR) workshop The PYR workshop set out to identify the common challenges facing East Africa’s youth and to explore strategies aimed at enhancing their resistance to radical ideologies. A primary goal of the PYR workshop was to promote understanding of the drivers of youth radicalization, identify East African youth’s resiliencies and coping mechanisms to these drivers, and to generate policy recommendations aimed at mitigating the drivers. The PYR workshop also sought to explore ways that technology and East Africa’s evolving youth culture can be leveraged to resist radical narratives and promote positive alternatives to violent extremism.
