This report examines the history of, the metamorphosis, and the future trajectory of the Al-Qaeda franchise known as Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM). The important aims to highlight the need for global co-operation in tackling the threat of the organisation, and the importance of mobilizing the international community to counter the jihadi threat from AQIM in North Africa and the Sahel. The significance of the internet in maintaining a platform for the salafi-jihadi ideology is also highlighted to emphasize the need for a multi-faceted approach to tackling the threat of AQIM.
