The study analyzes how the German climate protest is possibly becoming radicalised and whether violence is also being used to achieve its goals. Numerous interviews with activists show that although the protest is becoming more radicalised and more disruptive ways are being sought to express it, violence against people is still an absolute taboo and is seen as a red line that must not be crossed. Furthermore, anti-democratic behaviour is the absolute exception among activists. The research question focuses on the potential for radicalisation within contemporary climate protest movements in Germany, examining whether these movements, while primarily expressions of democratic values, are at risk of being influenced by extremism or violent actions in response to perceived political failures regarding climate action.
