Conceptualised fifteen years ago by Father Andre Poilievre during his time in incarceration for gang-related activity, STR8 UP is a Saskatchewan based group that works to prevent individuals from entering the gang lifestyle, but specialised in rehabilitating gang members and primarily those of Aboriginal origin. Former gang member, Rodney Nataucaepo who is now a justice worker and has been a member of the programme for over ten years, exclaimed that the programme is functional but that members needed the extra resources to spread the word through initiatives such as traveling to schools, treatment centres, and reserves.
